Assessment and Program Review
Goal 5 of the Illinois Board of Higher Education’s Illinois Commitment requires every degree program in Illinois to document an academic assessment plan and the improvements made from assessment processes.
The Process for Review of Academic Assessment Plans (PRAAP) is the primary method by which ISU facilitates a thoughtful review of assessment practices. Reviewing assessment plans is directly tied to the program review process for each degree program.
Overview of PRAAP (Process for Review of Academic Assessment Plans):
- Departments/schools submit completed/revised academic assessment plans for each degree program to University Assessment. The plans are posted on the UAO web site as modifications are received.
- Each fall semester a two or three-person team with members from the Assessment Advisory Council reviews the elements of the plan using the assessment plan rubric.
- In February/March (20 months from the program review deadline) of the spring semester, University Assessment contacts the chair/director to discuss the feedback provided by the AAC peer-review team. The results may necessitate revisions or additions to the public plan.
- Consultation can be provided by the UAO to the departments/schools to assist suggested modifications. It is recommended that changes be finalized 14-16 months before the program review deadline.
- The revised Assessment Plan should be referenced in program review documents/submissions per guideline requirements.
